What hormones do we release in ejaculation?

Discover why the sexual act is more instinctive than rational

Sexual intercourse strengthens the immune system, reduces stress, burns calories and even helps you fall asleep much better. Why is this happening?

Our body releases different types of hormones during sexual intercourse: endorphins, serotonin, prolactin, vasopressin, oxytocin… They all contribute to how we feel during and after sex and how our body reacts. In addition to the release of hormones, parts of the brain have also been observed to 'turn on'.

In this process, the limbic system is activated, the region of the brain responsible for physical impulses and elements of emotional processing. On the other hand, other parts of the cerebral cortex that govern higher reasoning shut down. The consequence of this change is that the sexual act itself is driven more by instinct and emotion than by rational thought. This explains why we consider it a time to let go and where we are more open to trying new things.

The brain during sex is also responsible for activating the cerebellum, the part of our body that is responsible for motor function, balance and emotional processing. This allows us to carry out all sexual activity and also increases the muscle tension that creates orgasm.

During erotic massages, the first phases of arousal are experienced even though the massage does not involve intercourse. That is why it is the best time to experience the pleasure and well-being that we have associated with sex and also the desire to let yourself be carried away by new pleasures that you did not know before. At Premier Massage you can enjoy all these sensations.

What hormones do we release and what makes us feel?

Dopamine

Sex causes the brain to release much higher levels of some neurochemicals, and especially the fact that we release dopamine, which we generate in pleasant situations, is closely linked to our reward system.

The release of dopamine automatically produces a sensation of pleasure, and as our brain interprets this behavior as pleasant, it reinforces the need to experience sex again, this is good because it is related to desire, although in very extreme cases it could lead to an addiction.

Oxytocin

Oxytocin is another of the hormones that act as a neurotransmitter in the brain and its levels increase with sexual arousal and orgasm.

This hormone is what helps to arouse sexual arousal and helps men maintain their erections, but it is also important after sex. Oxytocin is known as the attachment hormone, the one that predominates in stable relationships, makes you feel attached to the other person and intensifies your emotional bond. It has also been proven that it is a hormone with a reproductive function because in women it promotes contractions of the vagina, which facilitates the movement of semen towards the uterus, while in men it helps contract the prostate and seminal vesicles.

We know that sexual pleasure and pain are closely related and that oxytocin is responsible, since this hormone also has powerful analgesic effects. Therefore, in addition to contributing to our feeling of well-being after sex, it may explain why some practices such as spanking cause pleasure instead of pain.

How long do its effects last? Oxytocin lasts in the body for about three minutes but its effects last up to three hours. So the feeling of attachment and its analgesic effects, and therefore well-being, remain while you hug that person or sleep with them.

Serotonin

Serotonin is responsible for regulating mood and sleep, two very important actions because if people do not produce enough they can feel depressed. During sexual intercourse, serotonin levels increase, which makes us feel happy and peaceful, improves mood and relieves stress.

In addition, high levels of serotonin are related to a high libido and increased desire, both of which are key during the first stage of arousal in a sexual relationship.

Therefore, if you receive erotic massages frequently, you will experience how it is easier for you to increase your libido and this leads you to be more sexually active in your relationships. Erotic massages are not only a source of pleasure but also help improve your sexual health. You can learn more about its benefits here.

Prolactina
